  • Grafitto has undergone some pretty major renovations lately:

    1. Asgard is now housed on a P4 2.8 HT machine instead of a P4 1.7 Ghz machine
    2. The new server is now housed in a Teleglobe data center in Toronto instead of in Atlanta, GA
    3. We have migrated from gentoo to CentOS 5

    The switch was made as transparently as possible, but tell me if you find anything wrong!

    Grafitto finally has its own DNS cache and should now respond much faster to web queries.

    After a 2 month hiatus, Grafitto has finally crossed another milestone.

    • GCC 4 now replaces GCC 3.2
    • RAM is now boasted to 1 GB
    • Kernel has been upgraded
    • Every single package has been recompiled twice over
    • Firewall is now back up!

    The server is now considered stable. Welcome to Grafitto 1.5 (System Information).

    All SSH logins have been disabled (and in fact many services have been shutdown) in order to faciliate the upgrade of GCC from 3 to 4. This process is expected to take anywhere from 1 to 2 days, so sit tight.

    Everyone who visits this server has probably noticed the 2 month long downtime. I am going to refrain from letting loose a string of profanities here about the issue, but needless to say, the server is currently being rebuilt.

    Grafitto was substantially rebuilt this monday and tuesday (July 4th holiday).

    • The year old kernel has been retired
    • LDAP has been upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3
    • Gentoo profile has been switched from 2005.1 to 2006.0
    • The date and time on the server will no longer be randomly off. In fact, Grafitto is now a NTP Stratum 3 server!
    • The logging facility on grafitto has been significantly streamlined

    Amidst all these changes, I am sure I botched some stuff. The current known bugs are:

    • Outgoing SMTP server currently does not work

    If you guys see anything else broken, please email me!

    Grafitto is currently moving from a bunch of scattered hand written files into a very hacked Wordpress2 driven website…

    Therefore, if you encountered any weird problems within the next few days.. just sit tight and hopefully I’ll fix it :)

    Um… I haven’t updated about the progress of the server for a while now, so I”m just going to make one complete update.  In the last eight months, the server has gone through some fairly substantial upgrades.

    • PHP4 => PHP5
    • MovableType => Wordpress
    • Central Authentication through LDAP
    • Gallery 1 => Gallery 2
    • Horde 2 => Horde 3
    • Qmail => Postfix / Amavis

    For everyone who has access to Grafitto (SSH / FTP), you may now log into private for all kind of special goodies!

    The server is now 90% operational and ready to take on friends!  If any one (that I like) needs hosting, etc… Tell me!
